Weekend Wishes!

The world around me is turning green, and I keep smiling at it. All the leaves are coming along so nicely, and there is so much sunshine that I have to drench Chessy in cool water when we get in from our walks. She appreciates that. I can understand, I wouldn't want to be covered in fur right now either.

To celebrate a full week of sunshine, a successful picnic and the winter being fully gone and forgotten, this weekends wish list is all about green and cute things. Now I just wish I had a balcony to enjoy the warm spring evenings on.

Picnic!

Me, G and Chessy went out for a picnic this Thursday, and it was pretty much awesome! The sun was shiny and the grass was green, the bulldog was happy and so were we. Things are moving forward in life for both of us. G has gotten into a real cool art school and I'm moving south along with J to start a new life. He's got a new job and I'm about to start my own career as a freelance illustrator. It's all exciting and a bit scary, but it always helps to talk to a friend about it.

Commission - girl with glasses

I did this a while ago but haven't shared it. I loved working on this portrait, and it always feels special to work on pieces for others. I also love the style of this girl. She was so much fun to paint!

Art block

A self portrait I made in like, 15 minutes or something. I haven't been able to get anything done at all today. Whenever I've made an effort I've been struck down with fatigue and ended up sleeping on the couch with Chessy next to me. While that in itself is rather pleasant, I would very much have liked to get some writing or Deadzone-drawing done.

I'm in the middle of story boarding some of the first written scenes at the moment, which is amazingly fun. yesterday I whipped out so many concepts and sketches that I couldn't believe it myself, so perhaps today is creative-overload hangover day? Tomorrow will probably be loads better. Oh yes!

The Gloom

Perhaps it's the stress of having to finish school. It might also be that my apartment is a mess and I don't have the energy to fix it. I'm gloomy.

Now, this happens from time to time, so I'm used to it. The question is, how to I get over it so that I can actually start working on school-stuff again? I desperately need to finish now, and the final deadline is closing in on me. I can't just lie around on the couch with my nose pressed against my dogs tummy all day, even though that's what I'd like to do most.

Tomorrow me and G are going out for a picnic, which is pretty awesome. We haven't seen each other in a while, so I'm looking forward to it! I'll bring my camera along and see if I can snap some pretty pictures.

So what about the gloom? I'll just try to forget about it for now. Let it rest like a fat cat somewhere in my mind, spreading it's gloomy fur all over the place. If I think of it like that, it doesn't feel so bad anymore.

Distractions

I'm in the middle of correcting my thesis, making sure that everything makes sense, that there are no spelling-errors and that it's finished enough to pass. It's tedious work, and it's making me nervous.

When I graduate from University, I'll be free but also just out there with nothing to hang onto. I just hope that my plans for the future will work out and that I don't go all scared and nervous to hide in a corner.

Things are changing around me, and by the end of this summer I have no idea where I'll be. While I try to make sense of all this in my head I distract myself with art as usual. It soothes me since I forget about everything else when I sit there, visualizing characters and situations.

Sweet Artist: Justin Wallis (MILKBBI)

Take a cup of cute, half a cup of weird, and pour loads of sweetness all over it, and you get MILKBBI! Art created by Justin Wallis that I personally find kind of irresistible. The candy-colored cuteness of it all makes me think of japanese girls dressed up in wonderful outfits in the streets of Tokyo, and I can't help but smile.

Weekend Wishes!

I'm out, celebrating easter away from the comfort of my own apartment. Out here in the land of nothing but forest and dusty roads, I feel calm but I also get a bad case of internet withdrawal. Perhaps it's like rehab for the internet-addicted?

Still though, I managed to sneak my laptop close enough to a connection so I can post a bit here, get in touch with my friends and work on school-related stuff. Now then, wishes!

This weekend I love teal, pink and brown. No real news there, but this color combo makes me happy! Check out these super cute stores and their stuffs! You shall not be disappointed.

And some more..

I've had my mind glued to school and Deadzone lately, so there hasn't been a lot of diversity to my posts. Well good news is that I've been insanely productive, producing at least one and a half finished picture each day besides the little bundles of quick concepts I'm making on the side.

Tomorrow me, J and the bulldog will be going out to the in-laws to celebrate easter holidays. I predict loads of candy and hopefully some sleeping in the sun outside on the grass. When I tried to sleep outside on the grass with Chessy here outside my apartment, she just ran over to scare a tiny chihuahua and her owners. I had a nice talk with them though, two little girls who wanted to know everything about my dog and why she has no tail (she has a tail, it's just too small to be seen)

I'll try to squeeze in an early weekend-wishes post tomorrow before traveling away. Otherwise I'll probably be back on monday people! Happy easter times to all!

More Deadzone

I'm working on mood-pieces of the main characters for Deadzone - London. We now have a facebook page too, worth checking out for sure. The story is in progress and soon the work of actually story-boarding the graphic novel will start. I'm really excited since I've never done this before. I've had loads of small projects that have ended up as nothing, but I have a good feeling this time, and very good help from my writer.

I love drawing in this style too, inspired by animation. I'm using flat grayscale colors and a kind of cel shaded style with shadows and light. I want the lines to to the work. Ah, I have loads of other characters to draw still! Right now they are just scribbly concepts. Some of them can be found on facebook though, so go there if you´re curious people!

Best ever

This season makes me smile and come alive again after the heavy weight of winter. I've been thinking I should bring my camera with me out on my morning walk for a long time now, and I finally got around to do it. I love taking pictures of the small green things showing themselves on branches and by the side of the road.

This week, again, is full of schoolwork, but I'm hopeful that it won't be too much stress, and that I will still be able to draw and play around as I usually do. I predict a lot of Deadzone artwork coming up..

Weekend Wishes!

I couldn't sleep last night, or the night before. I don't normally have these problems, so I'm not sure what to do except to try and relax and let things flow more freely through my mind. Not letting thoughts stick in there like bubblegum to my hair.

This wish list is a mixed one of lots of small things I've found and fallen in love with on Etsy. They all give me the feeling of this chilly spring weather that I'm currently enjoying to the fullest every time I walk my dog, and through the open window when I can't sleep. For me this is the best time of the year.

Sketch

Another Deadzone character, and another old character design of mine that has gotten re-worked. This guy is Cornelius, also called "Sketch". He is a free running graffiti-artist who has made it his mission to spread truth to the surviving citizens of London. A post apocalyptic prophet with a spray-can in his hand.

It was a lot of fun working in this piece, practicing extreme angles, exaggerated foreshortening and movement.

The Kreep Kick

I did this kind of promotional banner for Deadzone this morning, to practice movement and action poses. I've never drawn fight-scenes in my life, and in this project there will be loads of those for sure.

This character is King Kreep. He is the re-worked version of an old-character design I did ages ago. Now he's gone through the brutal mind of Mr. Joy in order to become more than he was originally. You'll see more of him in the future. I love to draw him and those vicious boots of his.

Little Sister Monki

Yesterday I got a letter with a little gift. It was from my little sister, and it contained this super cute little leaflet from Monki!

Now getting a real letter in the first place is pretty amazing these days, but getting one with an adorable handwritten note and a bundle of beautiful pictures in it, that's just heaven! My sister knows what I like, and I'm so happy she'd take the time to send this from Gothenburg to me. In the tiny city where I live I don't have any Monki-stores, so she is my lifeline to this amazing little place of cute and spunky fashion.

These are my own photos of this cute gift, credits for the photo shoot portrayed within is shown at the bottom of this post.

Laundry Day

The day has come. I have feared it for the longest time, and now I can't run from it any longer. Laundry day..

Me and J have divided our household chores "equally" by him taking care of the dishes and me taking care of the laundry. The thing is he does the dishes every day, I do the laundry every second month (if even that). And when I do, I often have help from my mom-in-law. I'll admit it: I hate doing household chores to the degree where I actually sit with full-on decay around me. I wouldn't be surprised if my laundry basket actually came alive one day and just crawled out the door.

I just have this really nifty way of finding other stuff to do other than doing the laundry, such as drawing, role-playing, reading, chatting, discussing Deadzone-ideas with Mr. Joy, blogging.. You get the idea. I procrastinate and ignore it all. Now I've been ordered by J to take care of the mess before we actually run out of clothes to wear and have to start running around naked.

What's your favorite household chore? (And by favorite I mean the one you hate with all your soul)
